General Conditions of Sale
Buyer’s Premium & Tax
- A 15% buyer’s premium is applied to all final winning bids.
- Some purchases may be subject to California State Sales Tax.
- Full payment is required on the day of the auction.
- No items will be released until payment is received in full.
Accepted Payment Methods
- Payments must be made using Visa or MasterCard.
- The credit card on file will be automatically charged upon winning a bid.
Estimated Values
- Price estimates are based on past auction data, collector sales, and current market conditions.
- Estimates serve only as guidelines—final sale prices may be higher or lower depending on item rarity and demand.
Reserves
- Some items may have a reserve price (a minimum acceptable bid).
- Items without reserves are available for sale at any bid level.
- Reserve prices are generally set at or below the lower estimated value.
Auction Preview
- All items are available for preview via The Vintage Surf Auctions app (available for free on mobile and desktop).
- Users must register with a valid credit card to obtain a bid number.
Bidding & Sales Process
- Sales are final once the auctioneer announces “SOLD” or, in a timed auction, when bidding officially closes.
- In cases where an item does not meet the reserve, the highest bid may be marked as an “offer.” Bidders must contact the item owner to confirm acceptance.
- A soft close may occur if multiple bidders are actively competing at the moment of closing.
Terms of Sale
- All purchases must be removed from the auction site by the deadline set forth in the auction details.
- Buyers are responsible for any costs, risks, or liabilities associated with item removal.
- If an item is not picked up within two (2) weeks, it will incur a $100 per item weekly storage fee.
- All items are sold “as is, where is.” No warranties or guarantees, express or implied.
- The auctioneer has the final authority on bidding disputes and may re-offer an item at their discretion.
- The auction house reserves the right to refuse bids or revoke bidding privileges.
Packing & Shipping
- Buyers must arrange their own packing and shipping.
- Items must be picked up within two weeks of auction closure, or a designated shipping provider must be arranged.
- All packing and shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
- Shipping instructions must be communicated to the auction house within two weeks of auction closing.
